So this is Christmas...

One of many songs I enjoy at Christmas is John Lennons Happy Christmas (War is over), the opening line "so this is Christmas, what have you done? another year over and a new one begun" just makes me want to think about the past year.

Today we had our "Christmas" service at church, we did the Family Feud thing earlier and took a survey.  Seems most had plans with the family no one wanted to commit to attending an actual Christmas Eve service.

I'm not a scrooge but I think as a society we have gone to far with the commercialism, I also am not real fond of the radio stations that play nothing but Christmas music.

There are some things I do like about Christmas, I like the non traditional music I have the complete collection of "Very special Christmas"  CD's  (I'm playing some on itunes as I type.)  There are a few TV specials I like, my favorite being A Charlie Brown Christmas.  I'll find a Christmas Eve candle lighting service to attend somewhere and drive to the Flying J truck stop to get hot dogs 2 for a buck, then probably to downtown Delaware to take pictures while most of the streets are empty.

As i sit and think, 2008 was not really a good year.  What I do have to remind myself of is the fact that it's not about the gifts and the parties but rather a time to celebrate the the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  We must also remember that Jesus is still in the business, the business of saving souls, forgiving sins, and healing the sick and broken hearted.

I hope you have a Mary Christmas, sit at the feet of our Lord and enjoy some time with Him.  No gifts, parties or fancy preparations needed, come in and set down.
